More than 80 MDHS employees braved the heat June 18 to walk or run in the Governor's 5K for Health benefiting Batson's Children's Hospital. Many staff wore colorful tutus and green shirts to help distinguish our team.
In the end, six of our team members placed in top positions:
Bryan Grove, 1st Place, Male age 30-34, time 20:43
Rutledge McMillin, 2nd Place, Male age 30-34, time 21:00
Marissa Whitehouse, 3rd Place, Female 25-29, time 28:26
Aaron Rushing, 4th Place, Male age 19-24, time 30:15
Michelle Lowe, 4th Place, Female 60-64, time 53:47
Mary O'Neal, 5th Place, Female 50-54, time 42:59
The agency also won the award for "Largest Team."
In May, a celebration was held to mark the opening of the new training and fitness facility at the State Office.
In addition to the Grand Opening, past MDHS Executive Directors were recognized and honored with a plaque to be hung in the new training area at the State Office. On hand for the event was, from left, former Executive Director Don Thompson, current MDHS Executive Director Rickey Berry and former Executive Director Don Taylor.
A special recognition for MDRS Executive Director Butch McMillin for his service and assistance through the years.
Mississippi Retailers Association Ron Aldridge was on hand to make a presentation to help in purchasing equipment for the facility.
The 2015 Richard Harris Leadership Award was awarded to Alynda Ponder for the training and leadership she has provided to many in preparation for emergencies.
